MagicScan 4.5 - earlier versions have been tested successfully.
V4.4 was the first driver release that officially supported Windows
2000. The MagicScan driver is written for the Professional scanner range,
although it offers limited support for some consumer SCSI models.

Windows 2000 Specific Notes
As Windows 2000 Professional is based on a similar System architecture
to Windows NT, some constraints which apply
under NT are also applicable under Win 2000. When using any of the
parallel scanners, the user MUST be logged onto the machine with Administrator
rights. Logging on as a normal user will cause a 'link error' when a
scan is attempted.
When using the 2000P, it will be displayed in the Device Manager as
1220P, and may be detected by Windows every time the computer is rebooted.
The PC will then look for the relevant 'inf' file. Although the scanner
should still function without problems.
Current Astra USB drivers support Win 2000 Professional, and older drivers
for the 1220U scanner are included on the OS CD.
'scsimap.sys
required'
Sometimes, during
scanner installation of MagicScan 4.4/4.5, Win2k asks for the 'scsimap.sys'.
The 'scsimap.sys' is a system file from Win98/SE/ME, under Win2k and
is not needed.
The hardware
assistent of Win2k chooses the wrong '.inf' file to install the scanner.
Solution: - copy
the 'uwin2000.inf' ( MagicScan CD => Disk2 ) to an empty folder on your
hard drive. Remove the MagicScan CD from the cd-rom drive, open the
WinNT\Inf folder and delete the 'uwinmil.inf' plus the 'oem*.inf' which
mentions UMAX inside (you can view the .inf file by double clicking
it) - update the scanner driver in the device manager and direct the
path to the 'uwin2000.inf'.
Note: The
Inf folder and the '.inf' files are hidden files.
How to show all files on your system:
Double click on 'My computer'. Double click on your 'C:' drive.
Pull down the 'Tools' Menu to 'Folder Options'. Under 'Folder Options'
click the 'View' tab.
On the 'View' tab click, 'Show hidden files and folders', uncheck 'Hide
file extensions for known file types'.
Click 'Apply' then 'OK'.
