Protocol Documents for UMAX Parallel and USB Scanners Regretably we are currently unable to provide parallel protocol documentation for the development of Linux/UNIX drivers, as these have not been prepared by R&D. Unlike the SCSI scanner design, which has an on-board CPU and firmware to interpret scan commands, the parallel and USB scanners must be driven by a much more complex "low-level" driver incorporating all layers from the UI to the electro/mech control codes (effectively the complete scanner 'firmware').

A suitable protocol document has been requested and will be available here if it is ever written and released. Update 201099: all email requests will still be forwarded however we're resorting to a standard reply on this issue to many (abusive) customers! We will continue to request the docs and do what we can to help the SANE authors.

OEM Information As the world's largest scanner manufacturer UMAX have produced a number of models for other companies such as Agfa and Linotype CPS, based on UMAX's own-brand and special OEM designs - these are not directly supported by UMAX's SDKs, although UK contract servicing and support is available.
